Professional Master in ARCHITECTURE
WelcomeThe Professional Master of Architecture Program (Professional MArch) offers a year of advanced study for graduate students with previous professional degrees in architecture, urban design, landscape architecture, civil engineering, and city planning (or equivalent with a strong design background). This Professional Master's degree program is an interdisciplinary program of study with a concentrated time for completion.
The program is intended for qualified students who already have professional work experience. Students without professional experience after completion of the professional degree may be admitted, depending on the quality of their work. Students must demonstrate evidence of high-quality work and potential for development based on their grade-point average, letters of recommendation, and examples of work. Classes generally take place in the evenings (6.00 pm to 9.00 pm) and weekends.
The program's goals are to further train architects who are able to work effectively in teams across a large range of scales and with a well-developed understanding of architecture theory, urban places, and building technologies. The program offers a unique blend of courses in these areas. As advanced candidates, students from this program are expected to take a leadership role in the course design, assisting with the preparation, conduct, or evaluation of the courses and relating them to the content of the Professional Master of Architecture program. Students will share working methods, acquire additional skills, and explore new avenues of professional development under the supervision of an interdisciplinary group of faculty members in the Department of Architecture at Epoka University.

To train professionals those are equal in national and international criteria of education; qualified in theory and practice areas; design environments which meet esthetic, technique, ecologic, economic, cultural, historical, social, environmental and other necessary requirements; and train intellectual and expert architects who are innovative, creative, ethical, have the ability to work in interdisciplinary projects.
The Professional MArch degree combines a core curriculum with the opportunity to take elective courses tailored to a student's particular areas of interest. These courses typically relate to the student's thesis topic and are selected by the student in consultation with DoA faculty. To earn the Professional MArch degree, students must complete one year in residence, 60 ECTS credits of coursework, the core curriculum, and a Master's thesis.
The program is taught in English. Therefore, Albanian and international applicants from countries in which the official language is not English are required to submit official evidence of English language proficiency.
Thesis topics are developed individually by the student in consultation with DoA faculty. To prepare for their thesis research and writing, students must complete a course that offers instruction in methods for architecture, technology, or urban planning research. Thesis committees consist of three members, usually faculty members of the Department of Architecture at Epoka University. Students can also invite an outside reader to partake in the thesis committee, who must be a practicing architect or urban planner.
A preliminary thesis proposal is prepared during the fall semester and presented to DoA faculty after the winter break. The thesis project is substantially developed during the spring semester in close collaboration with the academic advisor. The thesis is typically finalized during the summer and formally presented to DoA faculty, Epoka University alumni, and in-coming architecture students at the beginning of the fall semester. (Although Professional MArch students are strongly encouraged to complete their written thesis during the summer, students have the option of going on filing fee for an extra semester and finalizing their written thesis during the fall.)
The final written thesis must be filed with the Epoka University Graduate School and prepared according to these MArch thesis formatting guidelines. The Department of Architecture has prepared this MArch thesis template in MS Word to help students format their thesis. Please strictly adhere to its layout and styles.
