Course Objectives: Introduction to the principles, technologies and devices used for distribution of multimedia signals in cable television systems.
COURSE OUTLINE
Week Topics
1 Analogue and digital systems for multimedial signal distribution.
2 Mediums for multimedial signal distribution. Coaxial and optical cables.
3 Antenna systems. Multimedial systems main station.
4 Determination of the signal level at the main station and the cable distributers network. Remote power feeding.
5 Cable network topology. Coaxial cable networks. Optical cable networks. HFC networks.
6 Primary, secondary and final signal distribution.
7 Multimedia distributive system elements. Distributive and line amplifiers. Splitters.
8 Midterm
9 Digital terrestrial, satellite and cable television, DVB-T, DVB-S and DVB-C. MPEG video coders and decoders. COFDEM, QPSK and QAM modulations.
10 Signal monitoring for multimedia services.
11 FTTH and FTT C networks. HDTV and multichannel sound.
12 Designing, construction, usage and maintenance of cable systems.
13 Trends in the development of multimedia distribution systems.
