Course Description: The major functions of top management, the major problems that affect the success in the total organization, and the decisions that determine the direction of the enterprise. Heavy emphasis on the ethical-social responsibility with implications in strategic decision making, including value chain analysis, and internal, external, and global considerations. Includes case studies, special reports, and seminar discussion of firm management problems
Course Objectives: This course is designed to learn the fundamentals of how to manage organizations strategically. It aims at offering a comprehensive understanding of the issues and techniques of strategy. Strategic management of organizations is a complex undertaking which starts with the central question: why are some firms more profitable than others? The course will require students to examine this question by integrating knowledge from prior business courses, while simultaneously learning and applying new strategic management concepts, principles, frameworks and methodologies that are organised in three major components of strategic management: strategic position, strategic choices, and strategy in action.
