Course Description: | This master level course introduces students to management principles and practices, with a focus on public agency administration. We will begin with discussion on the nature of public administration and move to organization theory and the effects of government structure on executive branch behavior. The course is designed to go beyond a conceptual framework of public management and also help students develop the knowledge, insights and skills necessary to manage and lead government organizations. |
Course Objectives: | (1) Understand the critical role of effective leadership in the public sector; (2) understand the significance of diversity in effective public governance; (3) analyze and evaluate alternatives and offer solutions; (4) draw upon multiple disciplines to understand and address policy and administrative problems; (5) effectively review a literature to help address a problem. |
